Council Realignment Update

Our New Council Has a Name
In an online vote by members from both councils, 73% of respondents selected Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida as the preferred name for the new Council. That decision was approved by the Council Realignment Committee and by GSUSA.

Other recommendations by sub-committees and approved by the Council Realignment Committee (CRC):

Governance
The following recommendations by the Governance subcommittee were approved by the Council Realignment Committee (CRC):

  1. The need for a technology subcommittee was discussed and it was decided that it would be formed as a sub-committee of the CRC. It may include two task forces - one related to management systems and software and the other focusing on internal communication options.
  2. With regard to the Governance Structure of the new council, it was recommended and approved that the Board size be 18 including five officers (president, 2 vice presidents, secretary, treasurer)
  3. In response to input from membership from both councils, it was recommended and approved that voting in the new Council be done by service unit delegates.
  4. The bylaws for the new Council will direct the Board to establish some community-based partnership boards (name to be determined) but will not specify how many, where, or who must sit on them.

Service Delivery
The following recommendations by the Service Delivery subcommittee were approved by the Council Realignment Committee (CRC):

  1. It was recommended and approved that the new Council continue to use the structure of “service units” as geographic subdivisions of the Council.
  2. The Service Delivery subcommittee recommend that a complete service unit boundary study be complete within 24 months of the start of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida.

Finance
The following recommendations by the Finance subcommittee were approved by the Council Realignment Committee (CRC):

  1. The committee recommended and the CRC approved the payroll system for the new council.

Other Information

  1. Final Vote Dates - Delegates from each Council will come together to approve the merger. The CRC has tentatively scheduled the following dates for the vote: September 6 or September 13, 2008.
  2. The Communications subcommittee will assume the responsibility for planning the day, which will include the venue for voting and a celebration.
