Council Realignment Update
February 2008

The Council Realignment Committee met on January 30, 2008 at the Jupiter Service Center. Here are the highlights of the discussions and decisions from that meeting.

CEO Search
The CEO Search Committee received 666 responses to the survey regarding the selection criteria for the CEO for Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida. The committee is working with GSUSA and their national recruiting firm on the search for the CEO.

Property
An administrative office serving as the headquarters for Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida will be located somewhere between the two existing service centers in Jupiter and Oakland Park. Both of the existing offices in Jupiter and Oakland Park will continue to operate as service centers for the expanded membership.

Communication
Planning for a membership celebration is underway for either September 6 or 13. Venues are being sought large enough to hold all members who would like to participate.

A new council domain name was selected— www.girlscoutssefl.org. This site will serve as the realignment page for both councils until September 30. On October 1, the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida newly designed website will be up and running. The Communications Committee will be seeking input from the membership on key items they would like to see be part of this new site.

A communications plan is being developed to guide the councils’ communications efforts through realignment and through the first quarter of the new council.

Human Resources
The development of a personnel handbook is underway. Members of the Human Resources Committee have met with staff from both councils to gather input.

Service Delivery
The Service Delivery Committee is acting as an advocate for the membership in the realignment process. They are gathering input on policies for the new council.

The Committee recommended that the realignment website be reintroduced and revamped to include information on the Council Realignment Committee, information about the process, and answers to frequently asked questions. Each subcommittee chair is to submit one or more FAQs to be included on the site.

Transition Nominating Committee and Governance
The Transition Nominating Committee is in the process of identifying candidates for the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Board of Directors. Members with recommendations for the Board or Board Development Committee should contact Leslie Roth, CEO of Broward, or Denise Valz, CEO of Palm Glades.

The Governance committee is working on the procedures and requirements surrounding the final vote for the new council, as well as the terms for board members serving the new council. They have also drafted bylaws for the new Council, which are currently under review.

The Council Realignment Committee will meet again on March 11.
